Changing higher education
Evelien Renders facilitates international collaboration in higher education at SURF, the cooperative organisation for IT in Dutch education and research. Complex processes, manageable data, and interoperability between systems make her happy.
She keeps track of international developments in student mobility and other logistical processes. In doing so, she contributes to flexible and agile education, both in the Netherlands and abroad. With a commitment to public values and open standards, Evelien advocates for communication, trust, and collaboration between IT stakeholders in higher education.

My Story
How does a classicist end up digitalising higher education?
For my master’s thesis at Radboud University, I explored the possibilities of Augmented Reality in the cultural heritage sector. My research focused on the presentation of the Parthenon temple in Athens. I have a Master’s degree in Ancient Studies/Greek and Latin Language and Culture and have taken courses in educational sciences and positive psychology.
At 9 I wanted to become a teacher
At 14 I wanted to become a classics teacher
At 19 I wanted to start a training bureau
At 21 I wanted to start my own university
At 25 I wanted to make students feel welcome at their new universitiy
At 27 I wanted to make international officer's lives easier
Now, at 29, I want to contribute to an interoperable educational ecosystem
